MS Darakum 14 Night Cruise - Cairo to Aswan Itinerary

DAY 1: CAIRO

Embarkation on cruise in Cairo. Dinner on board. Music in the bar. Overnight in Cairo.

DAY 2: CAIRO

Depart after breakfast to visit before visiting Giza, where the famous Pyramids stand as monuments to the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt and the Great Sphinx, which has kept its secrets for centuries.  After lunch on board the tour continues to the Egyptian Museum containing treasures from Egypt’s ancient past. Dinner on board. Takht (Oriental Music) during the evening. Overnight in Cairo.

DAY 3: CAIRO 

Enjoy breakfast on board before visiting Memphis the ancient city of Egypt and Sakkara home to the Step Pyramid of King Zoser. Return to the boat for lunch on board. After lunch visit  the Coptic area of Cairo which includes the Hanging Church, Coptic museum and a Jewish synagogue. Return to the boat for dinner on board followed by the Manager's Cocktail Party. Overnight in Cairo. 

DAY 4: CAIRO - BENI SUEF

Breakfast on board. After breakfast enjoy the beauty of the Nile whilst sailing from Cairo to Beni Suef. Lunch and dinner followed by Egyptian Wine Tasting on board, which  completes the evening. Overnight in Beni Suef.  

Day 5: BEN SEUF - MINYA

A full day’s sailing to Minya which takes almost 12 hours. Lunch, dinner on board with music in the bar. Overnight in Minya.  

DAY 6: MINYA

After breakfast visit the Tuna El Gebel, the necropolis of Khmun, to visit the Tomb of Petosiris, tomb of Isadora and the sacred catacombs of Thoth. Continue to Ashmunein to visit its Open Air museum, the temple of Thoth and the sanctuary of Amun. Return to the boat for lunch. After lunch, visit the four rock-tombs of Beni Hassan that are carved into the high limestone cliffs of the east bank of the Nile. The painted scenes depict the daily lives of the rulers and their families including scenes of desert hunting, weaving and spinning, fishing, country living, gathering crops and catching birds. Return to the boat for dinner on board followed by a Folkloric show.  Overnight in Minya.

Day 7: MINYA – TEL EL AMARNA - ASYUT

Early morning sailing to Tel El Amarna. Breakfast on board. This morning  the tour is to the Tel El Amarna site, once the city of Akhenaten, the Pharaoh known for his revolutionary religion that worshipped the Aten. Return to the boat for lunch on board. Sail to Asyut. Stop in front of Prince Tawdrous Monastery and view from the boat. Dinner on board followed by a Galabeya Party. Overnight in Assyut.

DAY 8: ASYUT – SOHAG

An eight hour sailing to Sohag. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on board. Black and White Party this evening. Overnight on board in Sohag. 

DAY 9: EL BALYANA - ABYDOS - NAGA HAMMADI

An early morning sailing to El Balyana. Enjoy breakfast on board followed by a  visit to Abydos Temple, the holy city of Osiris God of the Dead and the New Kingdom Temple of Seti l. Return to the boat and sail to Naga Hammadi, via Naga Hammadi Bridges. Lunch and dinner on board. To night is Quiz night. Arrive and overnight in Naga Hammadi.

DAY 10: QENA - LUXOR

Early morning sailing to Qena. After breakfast on board visit Dendarah. The temple complex of is one of the best preserved in Egypt. Return to the boat and sail to Luxor. Lunch on board. Enjoy an afternoon of cookery lessons on board. Dinner on board followed by a Belly Dancer show and overnight in Luxor.

DAY 11: LUXOR

Breakfast on board followed by a visit to the West Bank to the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut. Lunch and dinner on board. Music in the bar. Overnight in Luxor.

DAY 12: LUXOR – EDFU

Breakfast on board is followed by a morning visit to the East Bank Temples of Luxor and Karnak. Lunch and dinner on board. Sail to Edfu and overnight.

DAY 13: EDFU – KOM OMBO - ASWAN

After breakfast an early morning visit to Edfu Temple, one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. Lunch on board whilst sailing to Kom Ombo to visit the Temple of Sobek and Haroeris. Return to the boat for dinner on board. Sail to Aswan and overnight in Aswan.

DAY 14: ASWAN

After breakfast on board, a morning visit of the High Dam in Aswan and the Temple of Isis on Philae Island. Return to the boat for lunch followed by an afternoon visit to the Nubian Museum. Dinner on board followed by a Nubian Show and overnight in Aswan.

DAY 15: ASWAN

Morning at leisure for those clients not taking the optional Abu Simbel trip, a chance to relax on the sun deck, or stroll around Aswan. Disembark after lunch and transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Please note: The order or content of your itinerary may be amended due to lock closures, low water levels or any other unforeseeable circumstances. Due to the increasing number of boats on the Nile, at some docking points boats are moored side by side obstructing the view from cabins. Occasionally, due to operational difficulties a change of vessel can occur. However, the sightseeing itinerary will remain the same.
