FRANKFURT - MAINZ - OBERWESEL - COCHEM - BERNKASTEL - KOBLENZ - WIESBADEN - NIERSTEIN - FRANKFURT
DAT 1: FRANKFURT
Check into cabin from 6pm and settle in. Introduction to the crew over a welcome cocktail. Dinner on board and moor for the night.
DAY 2: FARNKFURT - MAINZ
After breakfast there is an optional guided visit of Frankfurt in the morning. Frankfurt is a bustling business city in the heart of Europe and the guided tour will visit its major attractions and monuments. Included is a tour of the old town and a viewpoint outside the Imperial cathedral. Return to the ship for lunch and begin cruising, first along the Main and then the Rhine to Mainz. After an afternoon’s gentle cruising, arrive in Mainz during the evening. Dinner on board and moor for the night.
DAY 3: MAINZ - OBERWESEL
After breakfast there is an optional guided visit of Mainz and the Gutenberg Museum. In the 17th and 18th centuries, architects and sculptors created the basic shape of the town, with fine palaces, churches and historic houses which have been well-restored. After there is a visit to the Gutenberg Museum (closed on Mondays) which has two copies of the Gutenberg Bible, the oldest printed book in the world. Return on board for lunch and cruise to Oberwesel, navigating along one of the prettiest parts of the Rhine Valley with hill-top castles and vineyards all along the river banks. Arrival in Oberwesel in the late afternoon and free time to explore this lovely medieval town. Return on board for dinner and an evening of music and dancing. Moor for the night.
DAY 4: OBERWESEL - COCHEM
Breakfast on board and the whole morning is spent gently cruising the Moselle whose meanders have carved out a unique landscape of incredible beauty. The vines that adorn the slopes along its banks are an added attraction to the region. Lunch on board and arrive in the early afternoon in Cochem. Optional guided visit to Cochem Castle, the Reichsburg , a flamboyant Gothic style castle perched on top of a hill, more than 100 metres above the Moselle. Return on board for dinner and set sail again. Moor for the night at Ellenz.
DAY 5: BERNKASTEL - KOBLENZ
In the morning gentle cruising along this very picturesque part of the Moselle to Bernkastel; traditional villages and fortified castles line the banks of the river. Lunch on board and arrive in Bernkastel in the early afternoon. Optional excursion to Idar Oberstein, famous for its gemstone cutting and polishing and the tour includes the historic agate mill and the town’s historic centre. Free time for shopping before returning to Bernkastel for dinner on board and cruise towards Koblenz through the night.
