Danube River Cruise Vienna Itinerary
DAY 1 - VIENNA
Check in from 6pm and settle into your cabin. Dinner on board followed by an evening at leisure or an optional guided tour of Vienna by night. Cruise through the night to Melk departing at midnight.
DAY 2 - MELK
Arrive early morning with breakfast on board. Optional excursion to the Benedictine Melk Abbey which sits high above the town of Melk, overlooking the river Danube. Lunch on board and cruise through the beautiful, picturesque landscape of the Wachau region towards the historic town of Durnstein, famous for wine-making and for imprisoning King Richard the Lionheart in the early 12th century. Arriving early afternoon, a tour is planned to visit the charming town of Durnstein situated on the banks of the Danube in the heart of the Wachau Valley. Return to the ship mid afternoon and cruise to Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia. Dinner on board and evening at leisure.
DAY 3 - BRATISLAVA
Arrive at Bratislava during the night. Optional excursion in the morning of Bratislava which sits on both banks of the River Danube. Full of old world charm, fabulous architecture dating back to pre-Roman times, beautiful churches, baroque palaces and timeless open squares, this medieval city surrounded by vineyards will be sure to enthral all who visit. Lunch on board, followed by an afternoon of cruising to the Hungarian town of Kalocsa. Dinner on board, followed by an evening of entertainment.
DAY 4 - KALOCSA
Arrive early morning. Optional excursion in the morning to the largest natural grassland in Central Europe, the Putza, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This ‘Great Hungarian Plain’ is a vast area of plains and wetlands, rich in folklore, history and traditional culture, flora and fauna. Included in this excursion is a visit to a Hungarian ranch to watch the extraordinary Magyar cowboys and their horses, demonstrating their equestrian skills during a horse show. Lunch on board with afternoon cruising to Budapest and arrive during the night. Dinner served on board and evening at leisure.
DAY 5 - BUDAPEST
Optional guided tour in the morning of Budapest or a free day to explore this beautiful city of two parts with Buda and Pest steeped in history, traditions, magnificent architecture and shopping opportunities. Lunch on board, followed by more leisure time in the afternoon. Dinner on board followed by an evening at leisure or an optional excursion to a traditional show in Budapest. Onward cruising from midnight.
DAY 6 - BUDAPEST - ESZTERGOM
An early morning arrival, in the small and charming town of Esztergom, the oldest of Hungary’s towns, on the banks of the Danube. A tour is included in the morning of the town which is of great historical importance. Baroque and classical architecture unfold before your eyes as you stroll along the cobbled streets with the highlight being the magnificent grand Renaissance Basilica seen from many viewpoints in the town and on the Danube. Lunch on board with an afternoon of cruising. This evening is a Gala Dinner.
DAY 7 - VIENNA
Arriving early in the morning, breakfast is served on board followed by an optional guided tour of this beautiful and vibrant city, known as the city of romance. Vienna has long narrow streets with majestic architecture and the handsome Schoenbrunn Castle. Lunch on board followed by either an afternoon at leisure or an optional guided tour of the Hofburg complex including the Habsburg Palace. It is here that the Habsburg monarchs ruled Austria for most than six centuries. Dinner on board followed by either an evening at leisure or the opportunity to attend an optional concert of Viennese music, (subject to availability). Moor overnight.
DAY 8 - VIENNA
After breakfast this morning, disembark around 9am and transfer to the airport for your return journey home.
Please note: for reasons of navigational safety, the captain and crew of the boat may decide to modify the cruise itinerary, which is beyond Orbital Travel's control.
