Desroches Island

Posted by: johnmcc

Desroches Island is located 230 km south west of Mahé, and is a picturesque, largely unspoilt island paradise with over 14 km of white sandy beaches. One of its best attractions is that it is one of the most pristine and untouched islands in the world, and on Desroches you are encouraged to get lost in the natural beauty of its beaches and exotic vegetation.

The accommodation on Desroches is tasteful and modern and the decor is inspired by the natural environment. Each suite and villa offers accommodation which is both private and spacious, in five star luxury surroundings. Each of the different types of accommodation offers something a bit different to suit your needs. For example the beach villas have a private swimming pool whilst the Dibwa retreat is nestled in lush vegetation. The villas are big enough to cater for families or for large groups of people wishing to holiday together.

The central hotel area known as the hideaway is a place for guests to meet and get to know each other, whilst eating some of the delicious food from the restaurant, reading a book in the library or doing some shopping at the Desroches boutique. The food served at the hotel is very exotic, gardens on the island provide the fruit and vegetables, whilst all of the seafood is caught fresh daily, and flavours of the Indian Ocean are prominent on the menu. The restaurants are Indulge at The Terrace or Indulge at The Beach and both offer the chance to eat this wonderful food in an alfresco location. The resort also offers many opportunities for you to choose where to have your food, have the chefs cook something in your private villa, or whilst you're sitting relaxing on the beach.

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy whilst you are on Desroches, from big game fishing, to water sports, to excursions and diving. What’s really special on Desroches is the amount of time you can spend simply exploring the island, there are bike rides and guided nature walks where it is likely that you will come across some ancient giant tortoises along the way. The island is an environmentally friendly establishment that helps to protect the ecological ecosystems of the island. One way that you can get involved if you have stayed on the island and want to give something back is to adopt an animal.

Desroches Island is a really luxurious yet fun resort, the ability to roam free and get in touch with nature sets it apart from other islands and means that it is a really good resort for both families and couples.
