The Maldives lies in two rows of atolls in the Indian Ocean, just across the equator. Comprising of 1,190 small coral islands, grouped into atolls all with variations in character and size, these tropical islands lush with vegetation, surrounded by coral reefs, white sandy beaches and turquoise lagoons teeming with marine life are an idyllic holiday destination. The people of the islands are widely dispersed across the atolls, with about 200 islands inhabited by the local population and about 100 of the islands are developed as hotel resorts.
A 7 or 14 night island hopping cruise around the Maldives visits gorgeous deserted islands with beautiful lagoons and reefs for snorkelling and there are excursions to experience the culture of the local islands and resorts. The cruise is based around the islands of the central Atolls (Male Atoll/Vaavu Atoll/Ari Atoll) which has a unique diversity of fauna and corals.
