The Saône River is just 294 miles long, beginning its journey in the Vosges and ending in Lyon where it meets the mighty Rhône which flows all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. The whole stretch of the Rhone-Saone River is 500 miles long, and meanders through Provence and the heart of French wine country before flowing into the Mediterranean via the Camargue, a spectacular river delta famed for its distinctive horses and bulls. At Lyon, the Rhone and Saone rivers meet and divide again at Arles, becoming the "Grand Rhône" and the "Petit Rhône". The Rhône flows through France’s gastronomic heartland and the cruise offers the opportunity for some tasting of regional products and wines.
The 7 night cruise journeys through hills steeped in vineyards, lush olive and orange groves, and fields of fragrant lavender. It will also take you through spectacular locks and will introduce you to world-famous wineries, ancient walled towns, monasteries and superb Papal palaces. Cruises are on board the 4* MS Van Gogh and the recently renovated 4* MS Camargue.
