MS Darakum 11 Night Cruise - Cairo to Luxor Itinerary

DAY 1: CAIRO

Embarkation on the 5* MS Darakum. Dinner on board. Music in the bar. Overnight on board in Cairo.

DAY 2: CAIRO

Depart after breakfast to Giza, where the famous Pyramids stand as monuments to the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt and the Great Sphinx, which has kept its secrets for centuries. After lunch on board the boat, the tour continues to the Egyptian Museum containing treasures from Egypt’s ancient past. Return to boat and enjoy Takht (Oriental Music)and dinner. Overnight on board.

DAY 3: CAIRO

Breakfast on board followed by an excursion to Memphis and Sakkara.  Return to boat for lunch and then continue sightseeing with an excursion to Coptic Cairo taking in the Hanging Church, Coptic Museum and Jewish Synagogue. In the evening enjoy the Managers cocktail party and dinner on board. Overnight in Cairo.

DAY 4: CAIRO TO BENI SUEF

Enjoy the beauty of the Nile with a full day’s sailing from Cairo to Beni Suef. Lunch and dinner on board, Egyptian wine tasting this evening on board. Overnight in Beni Suef.

Day 5: BENI SUEF - MINYA

Another day at leisure sailing from Beni Suef to Minya.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner onboard. Music in the bar. Overnight in Minya.

DAY 6: MINYA

After breakfast visit Tuna El Gebel and Ashmunein. Return to boat for lunch on board followed by an afternoon visit to the 4 rock-tombs of Beni Hassan that are carved into the high limestone cliffs of the east bank of the Nile. The painted scenes depict the daily lives of the rulers and their families including scenes of desert hunting, weaving and spinning, fishing, country living, gathering crops and catching birds. Return to the boat. Dinner on board. Enjoy the Folkloric show this evening. Overnight Minya.

 

Day 7: MINYA – TEL EL AMARNA - ASYUT

Early morning sailing to Tel El Amarna the home of the 'Amarnian experience'. After breakfast visit Armarna Visitor Centre and enjoy a presentation on Akhenaten and Nerfertiti. Afterwards visit the Northern Tombs and the tombs  at the Tel El Amarna site, once the city of Akhenaten, the Pharaoh known for his revolutionary religion that worshipped the Aten. Return to the boat for lunch. Sail to Assyut. Stop in front of Prince Tawdrous Monastery and view from the boat. Lunch and dinner on board followed by a  Galabeya Party. Overnight Assyut.

DAY 8: ASSYUT – SOHAG

Early morning sailing to Sohag with a day of leisure, taking in the beautiful of the Nile River. Dinner on board. Followed by the  Black & White Party night. Overnight in Sohag

DAY 9: SOHAG – NAGA HAMMADI

Early morning sail to El Balyana. After breakfast visit Abydos Temple, the Holy City of Osiris God of the Dead and the new kingdom Temple of Seti 1. Return to the boat for lunch. Sail to Naga Hammadi via Naga Hammadi Bridges. Dinner on board and Quiz night. Overnight in Naga Hammadi.

DAY 10: NAGA HAMMADI – LUXOR

Early sailing to Qena. Enjoy breakfast onboard, followed by a 20 minute drive to visit Dendarah Temple.  The temple complex of is one of the  best preserved in Egypt. Return to boat for lunch on board whilst sailing to Luxor. Enjoy a cookery lesson on board before dinner. This evenings' entertainment is a Belly Dancer show. Overnight in Luxor.

DAY 11: LUXOR

Breakfast on board followed by one of the highlights of the trip a visit to the West Bank to the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut followed by lunch. In the afternoon visit the East Bank Temples of Luxor and Karnak. Overnight in Luxor.

DAY 12: LUXOR

Enjoy breakfast on board before disembarking from the cruise.

Please note: The order or content of your itinerary may be amended due to lock closures, low water levels or any other unforeseeable circumstances. Due to the increasing number of boats on the Nile, at some docking points boats are moored side by side obstructing the view from cabins. Occasionally, due to operational difficulties a change of vessel can occur.
