Day 1: NAPLES
Check in from 6pm, introduction to the crew and welcome cocktail. After dinner there will be an evening of activities. Moor overnight.
Day 2: NAPLES
After breakfast there is an optional visit of Pompeii, Europe’s most compelling archaeological site and one of Italy’s most visited tourist attractions;
Optional visit to Herculaneum. Herculaneum was destroyed by an earthquake in 62 AD, the subsequent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD saw it submerged in a sea of mud that essentially fossilized the city. Discover a wealth of archaeological finds, from ancient advertisements and stylish mosaics, to carbonized furniture and inhabitants. After lunch there is an optional excursion to visit Naples to discover the Old Naples, the Royal Palace of Naples (outside), and the Cappella Sansevero (indoors), containing the masterpiece Veiled Christ. Return to the ship and begin to cruise towards Milazzo on the Sicilian coast. Cruise through the night.
Day 3: THE AEOLIAN ISLANDS - MILAZZO
The morning will be spent cruising through the Aeolian Islands off Sicily's north eastern coast; these UNESCO protected islands are a little piece of paradise. The chain of islands is named after the demigod of the winds, Aeolus. Arrive in Milazzo in Sicily in the early afternoon and there is an optional excursion to Tindari to discover the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna and a visit to the archaeological site with the Greek theatre, thermal baths and mosaics. Return to the ship for dinner and moor overnight.
Day 4: MESSINA (SICILY)
After breakfast there is an optional day trip (lunch included) to Mount Etna and Taormina. Mount Etna is the largest active volcano in Europe and for the ancient Greeks it was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. The bleak lava wilderness around the summit of Etna is one of the most memorable landscapes you’ll ever see. Continue to Taormina, idyllically perched on a rock high above the sea; its Greek-Roman theatre is not to be missed. Return to the ship for dinner which will have a Sicilian theme. Moor overnight.
Day 5: VIBO MARINA - CALABRIA
After breakfast there is an optional excursion to Calabria. Calabria is at the toe of the boot, the extreme south of Italy – surrounded by the crystal clear Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Its warm climate, beautiful colours, rocky coasts, local food and the vestiges of its ancient origins make Calabria a unique place to be enjoyed in both winter and summer.
The tour begins at Tropea, a seaside resort with impressive scenery and there will be a tasting of some local delicacies. Continue to Capo Vaticano, known for its dramatic cliffs, views and clear waters and then Pizzo, one of the hidden gems of Calabria. The centre of Pizzo is a picturesque network of narrow lanes bustling with modern Calabrian life. After dinner, entertainment will be provided by the crew. Cruise towards Salerno throughout the night.
DAY 6: SALERNO - THE AMALFI COAST
The morning is spent cruising along the Amalfi Coast: designated by UNESCO as an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, the Amalfi Coast combines great beauty and dramatic landscapes: coastal mountains plunge into the sea, picturesque towns and lush forests. There is an optional excursion to visit the villages along the Amalfi Coast including Sorrento, and its extraordinary gardens and landscapes. Gala dinner and cruise through the night to Naples.
DAY 7: NAPLES - CAPRI - ANACAPRI - NAPLES
After breakfast there is an optional full day excursion to Capri and Anacapri (lunch included). A hydrofoil is taken for the crossing to Capri and on arrival there will be a visit to Anacapri to visit the villa San Michele, built at the turn of the last century by Swedish physician and author Axel Munthe. Anacapri is located in the highest part of the island, and from the villas gardens there is a fantastic view of the city of Capri, the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Afternoon at leisure and return to Naples by hydrofoil. There is a folk show after dinner and moor overnight.
DAY 8: NAPLES
Breakfast and disembark at 9 am for your transfer and flight home.
Please note: for reasons of navigational safety, the captain and crew of the ship may decide to modify the cruise itinerary, which is beyond Orbital Travel's control.
There is a comprehensive programme of guided optional excursions which can either be pre-booked or can be booked on board the boat. There is a 5% discount when you pre-book the whole excursions package.
