In the heart of Bordeaux is the old town, the beautiful 18th century Place de la Bourse and the two remaining medieval gates to the city which were originally enclosed with a wall. Highlights include the Gothic Cathédrale St André, as well as its many fine and contemporary art museums and 18th and 19th century mansions. For shopaholics there is the main shopping street, the pedestrianised Cours de l'Intendance, which has a wonderful view of Bordeaux's Grand Theatre built in 1773 by Victor Louis. There are also plenty of opportunities for wine tasting at the Masion du Vin. Public gardens line the river quays, and the Grande Place de la Bourse opens to the water, with the Three Graces fountain at its centre.
Outside the city the surrounding chateaux and vineyards of the Médoc provide visitors with countless opportunities to sample the fabled wines.
We offer a range of 4* and 5* hotels in Bordeaux and the surrounding area which you can stay in before or after your Garonne & Dordogne river cruise.
