The Sofitel Legend Old Cataract is perched serenely on a pink granite hill with sweeping views of the River Nile and Elephantine Island. Recently refurbished this superb hotel has sophisticated and stylish interiors which blend harmoniously with Egypt’s historical heritage all within this original, elegant Victorian hotel.  Sumptuous soft furnishings and plush Persian carpets compliment elegant ruby chandeliers adorning the public areas, each echoing the past.

Celebrated author Agatha Christie drew inspiration from the spectacular views and penned parts of her novel ‘Death on the Nile’ whilst sitting on the Terrace.  One of the newly renovated Suites is named after her and is a somewhat grand affair.

The atmospheric domed restaurant 1902 allows you to become part of an era which has long gone; Moorish influences throughout the restaurant, beautiful stained glass, distinctive red and white arches and a beautiful beamed ceiling sets the scene for gourmet dining with impeccable service.

Spices assault the senses at the Oriental Kebabgy where premier dining on a well-appointed terrace overlooking the Nile is full of Eastern promise. An absolute must for anyone staying at the hotel is to sit and watch the sunset from the Terrace whilst sipping a cocktail or taking afternoon high tea.

A stay at the hotel can be arranged as part of our overland tours programme.
