Egypt is the oldest tourist destination on Earth, beginning with the Ancient Greeks to the modern day visitor. A wealth of awe-inspiring monuments attract thousands of visitors every year but these are just part of this country’s fascination.
Combining the great monuments, the hospitality of the Egyptian people and the natural beauty of the country all make for a holiday to remember. To help make your holiday as memorable as possible, we would like to offer the following information before travelling. The way of life in Egypt is at a somewhat slower pace than that which we are accustomed, which can lead to some frustrating moments.
We suggest patience and a good sense of humour being indispensable, will ensure an enjoyable holiday. Occasionally, due to unforeseeable circumstances and operational difficulties a change to your itinerary may occur at very short notice. Also, power failures and slow services may occur but this all part of the Egyptian experience.

Health
No compulsory vaccinations are required by UK residents at present. You should however, take advice from your doctor as to which, if any, may be advisable. Protection against Hepatitis, Typhoid, Tetanus and Polio are recommended.
It is advisable to pack a small first aid kit containing remedies for short term stomach problems, dehydration and small cuts.
Use of a repellent cream or spray is usually sufficient to keep mosquitos at bay. Try to avoid ice in drinks and use common sense when deciding what and where to eat and drink.
Currency
The local currency used in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (LE) with an approximate currency exchange of 10LE to £1.00. Many street traders and shops will accept English pounds.
Nile Cruises
With the volume of traffic on the Nile these days and lack of mooring spaces, you may be moored along side other cruisers with limited docking facilities. Also, you may experience delays at Esna Lock due to the congestion. This situation will, however, not affect your Excursion Itinerary. The Esna Lock is closed during the months of June and December which will entail all the Nile cruisers departing from Esna to Aswan and returning Aswan to Esna. Your Excursion Itinerary will not be affected as transfers to Luxor will be made by coach.
Excursions
All excursions and tours will be locally guided by English speaking guides.

The voltage in Egypt is 220v. Therefore, a two pin plug is required. We recommend that a travel plug adaptor be taken as part of your holiday requirements.

In resorts, lightweight and informal summer clothes are the norm. However, please remember that Egypt is of a strong Muslim faith and care should be taken not to offend, particularly away from resorts.

The dominant religion in Egypt is Islam, Christianity being the lesser but equally important religion. Ramadan is the most important and holiest month of the Islamic year.
