Austrian Cruises

Discover Austria’s beautiful architecture and breathtaking scenery from forested alpine valleys and lush riverside vineyards to its classical cities and peaceful villages on a river cruise.

Our ‘Beautiful Blue Danube’ river cruise starts and ends in the lovely city of Vienna, with its superb historical architecture, and travels through some stunning countryside both upstream and downstream of the city including the vine-clad banks of the Wachau Valley. Stops along the way include the riverside town of Dürnstein and the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, from where there are splendid views over the Danube.

Vienna is often called the ‘City of Music’ in honour of its rich musical heritage and also has a long standing tradition of art and culture. Some of the main sights to discover are the impressive Vienna Opera house, home to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hofburg Palace, and St Stephens Cathedral.

Set in the Wachau Valley wine region, the pretty riverside town of Dürnstein is home to a castle in which Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in 1192. The surrounding valley is enchanting with its steep, terraced vineyards and hamlets, villages and quaint half-timbered towns. Further along the river, the Danube is overlooked by the magnificent Benedictine Abbey of Melk and is one of Europe’s largest monasteries.

An Austrian river cruise is a great way to discover this  wonderful country.
